WINNIPEG

The vibrant city of Winnipeg, Manitoba's capital and largest centre, features a cosmopolitan dining scene. A good place to start exploring Winnipeg's plethora of eateries is in the city's downtown, which has everything from casual cafes serving fresh salads and sandwiches to upscale hotel restaurants with gourmet regional cuisine and hot buffets. The Exchange District National Historic Site is located downtown and offers beautiful turn-of-the-twentieth-century architecture and a variety of art, shops and restaurants. Situated in the southeast corner of Manitoba, the city of Steinbach has bakeries, ribs, seafood and pizza, among other options. INTERLAKE REGION

Just over 30 km (18.5 mi) from Winnipeg, the Interlake Region's largest centre, Selkirk, offers the perk of being close to Winnipeg's extensive dining scene along with its own delightful local eateries. The Fat Cat Bistro in Gimli serves regional dishes made with fresh local ingredients, while the Country Boy Restaurant's menu has Greek staples like gyros and souvlaki.
