Welcome to Interlake Region!
Situated between Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba, the Interlake Region is a painter's delight with its dense forests, sandy beaches and charming lakefront communities setting the scene. Selkirk is the area's largest centre, and while it is an easy 20-km (12-mi) commute north to the provincial capital of Winnipeg, it maintains its own character with an eclectic mix of restaurants, shops and sights and attractions. In Selkirk, visitors can see everything from Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site of Canada—one of North America's oldest intact stone forts—to Chuck, a colourful 3-m (10-ft) tall grinning fibreglass catfish. The town of Stonewall, also a short drive north of Winnipeg, attracts visitors with its recreational areas like the popular picnic spot Quarry Park. North of Selkirk on the shore of Lake Winnipeg is Gimli, a community known for its strong Icelandic roots and culture. Gimli is a great place to make the most of a warm summer day in Manitoba with its bounty of recreational activities like swimming, boating, fishing and sun-tanning on the beach. A few other places to hit the beach or go for a refreshing swim include Winnipeg Beach, Sandy Hook and Dunnottar.Tourist Attractions
