Welcome to Eastern Region!
A collage of varied landscapes, farmland, lakes and rivers make up the region
of Eastern Manitoba, located east of the province's Red River. Eastern Manitoba
is a year-round destination, offering outdoor adventures including canoeing, hiking,
fishing and hunting. Plenty of parks and recreational areas crowd together as
well, including
Whiteshell
Provincial Park, with lush forests and abundant waters. Enjoy a summer day
at the
Grand
Beach Provincial Park, located along the shores of
Lake
Winnipeg, and walk barefoot in the powdery white sands. Learn about French-Canadian,
Dutch, Mennonite and Ukrainian settlers by visiting the historical sights of scenic
small towns and museums such as the
Anola
and District Museum,
Broken-Beau
Historical Society Museum, and the
Costume
Museum of Canada. Several events also celebrate the heritage of the region
including
Pioneer
Days, held in August in
Steinbach,
the largest urban centre in Eastern Manitoba and the
Whitemouth
Museum Heritage Day in
Whitemouth,
a municipality with strong community roots. Visit the Eastern region, a wilderness
playground for the adventurous traveller.
